There is a definite inter mingling of cross culture religions, life styles and cuisine. Music is definitely seen as the culmination of western influence in the Japanese traditional songs. Pop culture is also peculiar with Japanese soccer songs and the original integral Japanese music is very much seen in the folk music of Japan.
There have been Zen influences and the strong effect of Buddhist music in Japanese music. Music is subject to different genres and there are many branches in modern music too. Western music is preferred by many because of its universal nature and many singers are popular in other countries other than their home town. There is rock music, reggae, hip hop, disco numbers and jazz too. The original birth of rock music in Japan can be traced to Les Rallizes Denudes believed in a complete performance package. These rock bands were actually known as space rock bands.
The instruments by the Taj Mahal travelers was pioneered by Kosugi who arranged many jams with bass, tuba, mandolin and percussions. The treating of the instruments with modern improvisations in sound technology has led to a new version of Japanese pop music. The seventies brought with it new experiments in music and pop. The music was electronical and jazz styled. There were new cultures in pop music with synth pop like Solid State survivor in the Yellow Magic orchestra. There are bands like YBO2 and After Dinner. The High Rise II is another space rock album from 1986.
The techno music of Japanese pop culture belonged to Ken Ishii and Yokota. Bisj ad DJ Krush brought with them a new hip hop or engineered kind of music. Nuzak and Kitsch style was seen in 1990 to about 1997. Japanese metal bands were a fine collection of electronic orchestra. The Sigh with Hail Horror Hail was a leading band in 1997. There was a flutter in music with Girl in 1991 with dance numbers, Krishna chants and movie sound tracks.
There was more to pop music with bands like Cibo Matto where the accentuation was more on funky, jazz and hip hop music. R&B music became common in the late 1990′s. SMAP was a popular band and Talent shows started becoming a rage. Morning Musume was a all girl band and its popularity hit the charts soon. The other female band was Onyanko Club.
